FIREARMS APPLICANT INFORMATION FOR THE CITY OF NORTH WILDWOOD

Please read ALL information before starting application
 NWPD no longer accepts paper applications - ALL APPLICATIONS ARE SUBMITTED ONLINE

GENERAL INFORMATION

There are four separate services that the NJ FARS system provides – Firearms Purchaser ID Card, Permit to Purchase a Handgun, Permit to Carry, Voluntary Registration of Firearms

     The fees due for these services are as follows:  

Initial FID Card $50.00 There is no fee for a replacement/Change of Address updated FID card  

Permit to Purchase a Handgun $25.00/per permit                 

Permit to Carry $200.00 every 2 years 

PURCHASER IDENTIFICATION CARD 

In order to apply for an Initial Firearms ID card from NWPD the following requirements must be satisfied:

- be a year round resident of the City of North Wildwood

- be 18 years of age to apply for a Firearms ID card

- possess a clear headshot photograph similar to a passport style photo. This photo will appear on your Electronic Firearms Purchaser Identification Card.

- must review the approved course of instruction in the lawful and safe handling and storage of firearms. This course of instruction is provided through the online application process for all initial applicants.

 Possession of a FA ID Card allows the holder to:

- purchase shotguns, rifles and ammunition

- transport weapon/s & ammunition in accordance with NJ State Laws which can be found on New Jersey State Police (nj.gov)

- apply for a Permit to Purchase a Handgun

- apply for a Permit to Carry

A Firearms ID card shall expires the tenth (10th) year following its date of issuance unless there is a change of address or change in name, as in the case of marriage.  Any subsequent approved application shall renew the Firearms Purchaser Identification Card for an additional ten years.  A lost or stolen card can be replaced by applying through the NJ FARS system.

 If you intend to purchase a Handgun in the next 6 months apply for both the Initial Firearms ID card and a Permit to Purchase and the same time by checking both boxes and listing how many Permits you wish to apply.  Failing to do so will require you to repeat the entire process in order to obtain a Permit to Purchase to purchase a handgun.

 If you have not previously been fingerprinted for firearms purposes and you have never been issued a NJ Firearms ID Card, after you complete the initial ID CARD application online you will be directed to a website to make an appointment to get your fingerprints taken at an additional cost to that vendor.

PERMIT TO PURCHASE

In order to apply for a Firearms Permit to Purchase from NWPD the following requirements must be satisfied:

- be a year round resident of the City of North Wildwood

- be 21 years of age or older to apply for Permit(s) to Purchase a Handgun.

- possess a NJ Firearms ID card from the City of North Wildwood

  Possession of a Firearms Permit to Purchase allows the holder to:

- purchase one handgun per permit

 Permits to purchase are valid for ninety (90) days from the date of issuance and will automatically be renewed for a sequential ninety (90) days for a total of one hundred and eighty (180) days. NJ State law allows one handgun purchase per thirty (30) days in the State of New Jersey. 

VOLUNTARY REGISTRATION OF FIREARMS

Registration of firearms is voluntary in the State of New Jersey. 

This NJ FARS option can be used if:

- you have inherited a firearm within the State of New Jersey and wish to register this firearm with the State. 

- you were a resident of another state where you legally acquired firearms and have now brought those firearms with you upon mooving to New Jersey.  These firearms may include handguns, long guns, BB/pellet  guns and black powder guns.  These firearms must be compliant with NJSA 2C:39-1w(1)(2)(3)(40 and/or(5).

- you have lawfully acquired a long gun in the State of New Jersey and now wish to voluntarily register that long gun with the State.  

CONCEALED CARRY PERMIT

The Concealed Carry Permits service allows for online submission of both initial and renewal applications. Approved applications are due for renewal every two (2) years. Renewal applications can be submitted up to four (4) months before the expiration date. Concealed Carry Permit applicants need to have been fingerprinted for firearms purposes in New Jersey and assigned an SBI number before they can apply for a Concealed Carry Permit. If you have lived outside of the state of New Jersey in the last ten (10) years, please fill out form SP-066 (Consent for Mental Health Records) and upload it to your application.

  In order to apply for a Firearms Permit to Carry from NWPD the following requirements must be satisfied:

You must already have applied for and possess a NJ FA ID Card

- SBI Number

- Upload of recent photograph (on a light background including head and shoulders)

- One (1) training record completed within the past two (2) years, instructor name, and qualification date

- Personal Information: including Social Security Number and Driver's License Number

- Background Information

- For Armored Car Applicants: Uploaded Employment Letter

- Contact Information for four (4) non-family related references

- Information on handguns to be carried

- $200 Application Fee

  

What do I need to submit a Permit to Carry Renewal:

- SBI Number, Last Name and Date of Birth for validation

- One (1) training record completed within past two (2) years, instructor name, and qualification date

- Any updates to Personal Information

- Upload of recent photograph (on a light background including head and shoulders)

- Background Information

- Any updates to Handgun Information

- $200 Application Fee – in the form of Two (2) Money Orders. No personal checks or cash.  All fees are non-refundable.  

One money order in the amount of fifty dollars ($50.00) made payable to:  ‘Treasurer, State of New Jersey’    

The other money order in the amount of one hundred fifty dollars ($150.00) made payable to: ‘City of North Wildwood  

FIREARMS APPLICATIONS ONLINE FARS SYSTEM INFORMATION

 Before you begin the application, have on hand your Driver’s License, Social Security #, Credit card for payment, your Employer’s information and the Name, Address, Phone # & E-mails of two personal references

Complete the application by following the on-line prompts. You may complete the application using a smartphone, mobile device, laptop, or desktop computer. It is YOUR responsibility to make sure you are filling out the application correctly. Incorrect or missing information will slow down the completion process of your application.

Read the application carefully and answer truthfully. False statements, lack of information, or less than full disclosure of any arrest record may be grounds for disapproval of your application.

All of your information entered on the application needs to match what is listed on your Driver’s License. You can NOT use a PO Box, it must be your physical address.

Female applicants must list your maiden name, if you do not have one mark “N/A.”

As the application process progresses you will received several emails from the NJSP.  They are ‘milestone’ updates to let you know that your application is being processed.

When your application & background are complete, you will receive an email or phone call from the North Wildwood Police Department letting you know your ID Card or Permit has been recommended for approval.  Before final approval is given you must come in to pay for the card/permit.   Once the fee is paid your will receive an e-mail confirming that your ID Card &  permits have been activated through the NJSP FARS system and is available for immediate use.  It will take approximately 2-5 days after payment to receive the Email from the NJSP.
